Finished compost Finished compost (started in Spring of this year, picture taken mid-November)   Compost was comprised of green wood chips, kitchen scraps, horse manure with bedding (courtesy Angel Acres, thanks Joan & Keith!)
and Starbucks coffee grounds.  Compost was made in a straw bale surround and turned when I felt like it.

new straw bale compost  New straw bale compost surround.  Started this week, surround comprised of 30 bales.  So far pile has 50 bags of shredded leaves, primarily oak (thanks Barbara for your superior leaf scouting), 40 gal of Starbucks grounds and 13 pumpkins.
Interior of straw bale surround. Close up of interior of new straw bale surround.  And, yes, I know that the pumpkins will compost faster if they are broken up but Grandkids won't be here until next week and they are looking forward to the job :)
2nd compost pile This is another of my piles - this one is just that, a pile.  The two pallets you see are just leaning against the pile, never got around to constructing this one's bin out of them.  Pile is comprised of Starbucks, kitchen scraps, garden waste and chopped leaves.  Don't have a thermometer but this morning it was too hot to leave my hand inside it more than a second or two.
Pallet compost bin This is a my newest compost bin.  Made from 46" pallets, lined with chicken wire, opens on one side.  So far only has Starbucks and chopped leaves but will get kitchen scraps all winter.  I NEED MORE HORSE MANURE!

Look what compost can do!
