OCTOBER 2009

Hi Friend:

Time has gone by fast this year. Soon it will be Thanksgiving and then Christmas.

This is the last devotional on this series about the eagle. I have enjoyed preparing this devotionals very much. Many people have commented on how interesting this series has been and how God has used it to touch their lives.

Join me, once again, as we continue to check out the eagle's characteristics and journey through life; then, consider how the eagle may compare to our Christian journey. I pray you will be encouraged, gain renewed strength and hope thorough God's Word. May you soar like an eagle as you journey on ahead through today, tomorrow and on into the future.

Excerpts from Proverbs 30:18-19a, Solomon writes:
"There are . . .things which are too wonderful to me,
for which I don't understand . . . the way of an eagle in the sky."

Solomon was the wisest man who ever lived, yet, there were things he saw that were too wonderful (awesome) for even him to understand. Solomon admits the "eagle in the sky" is one of those things. WOW!

"EAGLE RENEWAL"

FROM THE VALLEY TO THE SKIES

Every eagle goes through a process in the middle of life as their body goes through chemical changes. The eagle begins to lose its feathers. This process is called molting. The eagle will find a secluded valley and sit for hours in total isolation. The eagle loses weight and begins to lose strength. It appears the eagle will die. However, something amazing happens. Other eagles gather over head and drop food down to the eagle in the valley. The eagle hears the eagles above, looks up, and sees them dropping the food. The weak eagle begins to eat and slowly gains strength. The feathers grow back until finally the eagle's strength is renewed making it possible to fly and soar again.

We all go through times when we are in the valley, isolated and discouraged. We are ready to quit. We may wonder, "Is it possible to be renewed, to soar again?"

The Body of Christ needs to care for one another just like the eagles care and feed the molting eagle. When a Christian is "down in the valley", isolated and ready to quit, others in the Body of Christ are to be there to help and encourage them.

"The human body has many parts, but the many parts make up one whole body.
So it is with the body of Christ."
1 Corinthians 12:12

"Just as our bodies have many parts and each part has a special function,
so it is with Christ's body.
We are many parts of one body, and we all belong to each other."
Romans 12:4-5

The eagle stuck in the valley heard the familIar sounds of the other eagles above and looked up. The eagle was weak, and yet, little by little the eagle eats the food dropped down by the other eagles and gains strength. When we are down in the valley, crushed in spirit, we need to look up to our Creator God no matter how difficult it is. We need to ask Him to revive us as we feed on His Word--even if it is only one verse a day!

"The high and lofty one who lives in eternity,
      the Holy One, says this:
'I live in the high and holy place
with those whose spirits are contrite and humble.
I restore the crushed spirit of the humble
and revive the courage of those with repentant hearts'"
Isaiah 57:15 (NLT)

QAVAH is the Hebrew word that is translated in the Bible as TRUST, HOPE, or WAIT (see below). However, the word QAVAH actually means to bind together by twisting. For example: one string is not very strong, but imagine a rope with several strings twisted together--it becomes very strong. That is the picture of the word QAVAH. Those who are QAVAH (bound together with Christ, intertwined/twisted tightly together) in the Lord, receives His strength.

"But those who TRUST in the Lord (NLT)

"But those who HOPE in the Lord (NIV)

"But those who WAIT upon the Lord (KJV)

will find new strength.

They will soar high on wings like eagles.

They will run and not grow weary.

They will walk and not faint."

Isaiah 40:31 (NLT)

SONG

"Spirit of The Living God"

Spirit of the living God, fall fresh on me.

Spirit of the living God, fall fresh on me.

Melt me, mold me, fill me, use me.

Spirit of the living God, fall fresh on me.

(repeat 3 times)

PRAYER

Our Father in Heaven: When I, and my brothers and sisters in Christ, are at the bottom of the pit or deep in the valley discouraged and ready to quit, may we seek You, Your Church (the Body of Christ) and Your Word to help us become renewed so that we can soar again--mounting up as on eagle's wings. In Jesus Name, Amen.
